Lyrics

Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk

Upon arriving to the melting pot I get penciled in as a goddamn brown. Now that I am categorized, officer gets me naturalized.

Now that I'm living up in God knows where sometimes it gets hard without a friend. But as I am lurking around Hoptza! I see another immigrant punk!

There is a little punk rock mafia everywhere you go. She is good to me and I am good to her.

Legalize me! Realize me!

Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk

Despite the living up in USA I'm still holding up in all my ways. I gotta friends, we gotta band, we still make sound you can't stand without banging on some big old pot, without getting out of bed. But I'm relaxed, I'm just lurking around. Hoptza! I see another immigrant punk!

There is a little punk rock mafia everywhere you go. She is good to me and I am good to her.

Legalize me! Realize me! Party!

Of course we immigrants wanna sing all night long. Don't you know the singing saves the troubled soul? So I'm relaxed, I'm just lurking around. I got a method and you don't. You got a dictionary kicking around? Look up the immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk!

Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk Immigrant, immigrant, immigrant punk Yes, punk! punk! punk! punk! I punk!

Commentary

‘The deconstructive rage of the immigrant punk against the machine of postmodernism is integral to the global punk scene’ - Ivan Gololobov, Punk, Politics and Resistance: Fight Back!, Chapter 4.

The Jasper Johns inspired artwork of the american flag, sprawled with messages of no borders, global familia & punk mafia should instantly tell you something. Jasper Johns was an american artist that considered himself a ‘Neo Dadaist’. Dadaism is an artistic movement in modern art that started around World War I. Its purpose was to ridicule the meaninglessness of the modern world. Eugene Hütz, who wrote the song immigrant punk , once said Gogol Bordello was influenced heavily by Dadaism. So is our band, DANTE HH with whom we have chosen to cover immigrant punk.

We are immigrant punks. Two years ago, four of us moved from our former hometown of Bogota, Colombia to the city of Los Angeles, California to further the career of our band. Out here, we found a new member, who was from Japan. He too, was an immigrant punk.

As ‘Neo Dadaists’ , as punk rockers and artists, we felt it was time to pay homage to this band that has influenced so much of our sound and themes we address in our work. When we started this adventure of moving to another country, it wasn’t without its struggles, but we were fortunate, we were welcomed by the rock n roll community of California: there is a little punk mafia everywhere you go says Gogol Bordello’s song and find it, we did.

As we did, however, we couldn’t ignore how many others like us, did not. The world has grown complex. Technology has accelerated everything. The internet has eroded the concept of national boundaries and national borders. There is an escalating immigration crisis happening all over the world. As the world starts goes up in flames we feel that as artists and punk rockers ourselves, we have a duty to be part of the global conversation through Art. This isn’t only about paying homage. The message of immigrant punk rings louder and truer than fourteen years ago when it was released.

We hope, people who hear this anthem that has become our life, know that everywhere in the world there is a little punk rock mafia and that it will take care of you, if you take care of her.
